“On Sunday 6 March 12 children from the chess club travelled to Magdalen College in Oxford to represent the school in the regional zone of the most prestigious school chess competition in the country, the National Primary Schools Chess Championships.
The Under 9 team of performed amazingly and finished in 2nd place, narrowly missing out on top spot. The top 3 teams qualified through to the semi final stage, so they qualified comfortably.
The Under 11 team also performed excellently and they were in a qualifying position going into the last round, but they were paired against the very powerful Magdalen College A team, and their loss meant that they missed out on qualification by the narrowest of margins.
We are very proud of the huge effort that all of the children in chess club have put in to improve.”
