How our school is organised
Heatherside Junior is located in Fleet near to the town centre and Basingstoke Canal. We share our site with Heatherside Infant School, who we work closely with. Our school has 13 classrooms, a purpose built computing suite, a children’s kitchen, a library, a music room and a large hall. The classrooms in our school are situated on two floors, with three stairwells in total. There is no lift but all specialist accommodation (ICT suite, Library, Hall, children’s kitchen and music room) is on the ground floor. All year groups have at least one ground floor classroom. There are children’s toilets on both levels.
We have an attractive outside environment comprising of large playground space, two adventure playgrounds, a large field, a wooded area and a shaded picnic space. We are proud to have a large pond and nature area which provide further opportunities for children to enjoy learning outdoors.
The school is organised into thirteen, mixed ability classes, three in each year group*. For the teaching of Maths, children are taught in ability groupings. Throughout the year, we plan opportunities for children to work collaboratively with pupils from across all four year groups. We believe this helps to promote a sense of community and brings richness and diversity to children’s learning.
*Year 3 intake 2020 have four classes and will ‘roll through’ the school as a larger year group.
